Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon joins HCA Florida Heart and Vascular Care

Dr. Romualdo 'Peter' Segurola a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon joins HCA Florida Heart and Vascular Care in Miami-Dade County.

Miami, FL - HCA Florida Healthcare is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Romualdo ‘Peter’ Segurola, renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and eminent authority in minimally invasive cardiac, thoracic and percutaneous catheter valve replacement procedures to HCA Florida Heart and Vascular Care in Miami-Dade County.

Dr. Segurola’s twenty-year trajectory in cardiac surgery has brought to fruition more than 6,000 cardiac procedures and 4,000 thoracic procedures, including complicated esophageal resections. More recently, Dr. Segurola transitioned his approach into an exceptional minimally invasive heart surgery and percutaneous valve replacement practice.

Dr. Segurola was in private practice for fifteen years at South Florida Heart and Lung Institute before joining Jackson Health System in 2019. There, he served as chief of the department of cardiac surgery for Jackson Memorial Hospital; chief of cardiac surgery for Jackson Health System; and medical director of the Jackson Heart Institute. He also served as director for the percutaneous valve replacement program and the mitral regurgitation treatment program.

Dr. Segurola earned his doctor of medicine degree from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He then went on to complete two fellowships - cardiothoracic fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School and a surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. During his general surgery residency, Dr. Segurola served as chief and administrative surgical resident and senior surgical resident (PGY-3/PGY-4 Categorical) at Rutgers School of Medicine/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. Earlier rotations included a surgical internship at St. Mary’s Hospital; junior surgical resident at Maimonides Medical Center; and clinical fellow and research fellow at Yale University Hospital.
