Pasadena Hospital prepares for Hurricane Helene.

Tampa, FL — In response to the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Helene, HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital has transferred patients to nearby hospitals within the HCA Florida Healthcare network. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of all patients as the storm approaches the Tampa Bay area.

The patient evacuation process was completed swiftly and efficiently, with all patients transferred to alternative facilities equipped to continue their care. This precautionary measure aligns with HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital’s commitment to the highest standards of patient safety, particularly in times of severe weather.

In addition to the patient transfers, the hospital has implemented a Tiger Dam Flooding Control System around the facility to protect it from potential flooding caused by the storm. The Tiger Dam system, provided by US Flood Control, is an innovative and effective flood barrier solution designed to take any shape and protect against rising water levels. The system uses water-filled tubes that can be deployed rapidly to create a temporary flood barrier, ensuring the hospital is safeguarded from the threat of flooding.

"Our top priority is the safety of our patients, staff, and community," said Brent Burish, chief executive officer, HCA Florida Pasadena and St. Petersburg Hospitals. "By taking swift action to transfer patients and implement the Tiger Dam Flooding Control System, we are doing everything possible to prepare for the potential impacts of Hurricane Helene."

The hospital will continue to monitor the storm’s progression and provide updates to the public and staff as necessary. HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital remains in constant communication with local emergency management and healthcare partners to ensure a coordinated response.
