Brain tumor surgery
Brain tumors can arise from a number of different places, including originating in the brain, and originating elsewhere. The types of tumors we treat include primary and secondary tumors.
Brain tumor surgery is the most direct method for eliminating a brain tumor. If the tumor is in a location where it can be removed with minimal disruption to surrounding tissues, your doctor may recommend traditional surgery as the best course of action.
During the procedure, we begin by using intraoperative neuronavigation. This allows us to localize and target the tumor before our neurosurgeons create an opening to remove it.
Stereotactic radiosurgery
In some cases, the tumor may not be able to be removed via traditional surgery. In these cases, your doctor may recommend an advanced form of radiotherapy called stereotactic radiosurgery. Stereotactic radiosurgery is often referred to as “knifeless” brain surgery, and provides a path for excising formerly inoperable tumors.
Stereotactic radiosurgery delivers substantial doses of targeted radiation that work to shrink or fully eradicate tumors, with minimal damage to healthy brain tissue. By using this type of noninvasive procedure, you may experience a shorter hospital stay, less pain and a faster recovery.
