St. Petersburg, FL — This month, HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital announced their Breast Center of Excellence was reaccredited by the Food & Drug Administration under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). The MQSA quality standards were passed into law in 1992 to assure high-quality mammography for early breast cancer detection.

“These important standards lead to early detection, which in turn leads to better treatment, a range of treatment options and increased chances of survival. Our Breast Center at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital continues to meet these high standards,” said Brent Burish, the CEO of HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital and HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital. “I am incredibly proud of our Breast Center and Radiology team.”

Under the law, all mammography facilities must: 1) be accredited by an FDA-approved accreditation body, 2) be certified by the FDA, or its State, as meeting the standards, 3) undergo an annual MQSA inspection and 4) prominently display the certificate issued by the agency.
