Revolutionary treatment for the management of hypertension
HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital has become the first facility on the Treasure Coast, which is situated on the southeastern coast of Florida, to offer an endovascular renal denervation (RDN) procedure. This groundbreaking, minimally invasive treatment marks a significant advancement in the fight against hypertension and provides enhanced care for patients with resistant hypertension.
HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital is the first medical center in the region to perform the renal denervation procedure.
Renal denervation is a cutting-edge procedure designed to manage hypertension by selectively disrupting nerves in the renal arteries responsible for regulating blood pressure. Unlike traditional approaches, which often rely on medication alone, renal denervation offers a minimally invasive alternative for patients who have not responded to medication or lifestyle changes.
“We are thrilled to provide renal denervation to our patients on the Treasure Coast and beyond,” said Dr. Prasad Chalasani, a cardiologist at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. “This procedure represents a paradigm shift in the management of hypertension, offering hope and improved outcomes for individuals who have struggled to control their blood pressure through traditional means.”
During the procedure, a catheter is inserted into renal arteries, and radiofrequency energy is applied to disrupt the nerve activity. This helps lower blood pressure by reducing the overactive signaling that can contribute to hypertension, potentially leading to better blood pressure control for patients.
The benefits of renal denervation include:
- Effective blood pressure control: Renal denervation has demonstrated a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, leading to better overall blood pressure control.
- Minimally invasive: Unlike traditional surgical interventions, renal denervation is minimally invasive, resulting in shorter recovery times, reduced hospital stays, and less patient discomfort.
- Reduced medication dependency: By effectively lowering blood pressure, renal denervation may enable patients to reduce their reliance on medications, minimizing side effects and improving quality of life.
Care for your heart
As Florida's largest network of heart hospitals, our cardiovascular network makes it convenient to access a full spectrum of personalized heart, lung and vascular care treatments and services close to home. We are proud to say that more physicians in Florida recommend cardiologists practicing in the HCA Florida Healthcare network than any other Florida health system. This is a sign of our dedication to you and your family, and our ability to uphold and surpass high standards of care across all of our cardiology programs. This includes achieving the highest levels of clinical performance and more than 80 cardiovascular recognitions in 2022 from Healthgrades.
