About HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital

High-quality emergency care

HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital ER is a campus of HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital. We are proud to provide convenient access to the same superior level of emergency care found at our main campus.

Our on-site, board-certified emergency physicians, nurses and paramedics are trained to handle any medical crisis and work together to ensure the quality of your care. Everyone on our team is committed and equipped to provide fast, high-quality emergency care to people of all ages.

Our emergency room features

Some of the features of our emergency department include:

  • Advanced patient monitoring equipment
  • Comfortable treatment rooms
  • Dedicated pediatric treatment room
  • Occupational healthcare, including post-work-related accident care, drug screenings and breathalyzer testing
  • Private patient triage area
  • Seven fast-track rooms for patients with less serious illnesses and injuries

What to expect at our ER

No one plans for a medical emergency, but we strive to prepare you and your loved ones as much as possible so you know what to expect during your visit.

If you arrive at our ER with a life-threatening condition, you will be taken directly to an exam room. If your condition does not require immediate care, you may be asked to have a seat in our lobby until an exam room becomes available. If you feel your condition severely worsens while waiting, please inform the reception desk right away.

Registration

During registration, we will ask you to sign a treatment consent form and provide your name, address, phone number and insurance information as well as your personal physician's name and contact information.

If you are admitted to an exam room upon entry to our emergency department, a registration clerk will visit you and gather your information at your bedside.

Evaluation

Once you are in an exam room, you will receive a medical screening exam from one of our physicians, physician assistants or nurse practitioners. Depending on the type of illness or injury, a nurse may start an IV or obtain a blood or urine sample. Additionally, you may receive diagnostic testing, such as an X-ray or computerized tomography (CT) scan.

Our goal is to keep you comfortable and conduct tests as quickly as possible. Some tests do take longer to complete, so we appreciate your patience as we work to provide the care you need.

Treatment

Your treatment will depend on your physician's orders following your medical evaluation and diagnostic testing. Our staff will keep you informed about what to expect during every part of the treatment process.

ER discharge and follow-up care

Upon discharge from the ER, we will work with you to make sure you have access to the follow-up care you need to heal. As a part of the HCA Florida network of hospitals, we are able to help you find the care provider you need.
