Eva was ecstatic at the thought of her son’s arrival. May 2, the day De’ontaye was born – couldn’t have been a happier day. During her pregnancy, she had been cared for by Dr. Miles Byrd of HCA Florida Capital Women’s Health and Ashlynne Brown, certified nursing midwife delivered her sweet baby boy.

After the birth, when Eva found out her son had to spend a few days in the neonatal intensive care unit – she was a bit frightened. Eva says, “I was very nervous at first and then the NICU nurses and doctors calmed my fears. They addressed all of my concerns and I knew my baby was being well-cared for.”

De’ontaye was the first patient at HCA Florida Capital Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. The Level II NICU opened at the beginning of May. The NICU, deepens the hospital’s ability to provide intensive care for sick and premature infants born at HCA Florida Capital Hospital.

“The nurses were amazing and I appreciated the video system so that I could watch him at home and see what he was doing,” says Eva.

With the addition of the NICU, HCA Florida Capital Hospital will be able to maintain continuity-of-care for patients. The Level II NICU is staffed by board-certified neonatologists, board-certified pediatricians and registered nurses who specialize in sick and premature infants and collectively have 110 years of experience in taking care of tiny patients.
