Hospital earns platinum distinction for support of organ and tissue donations.
HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital earned national recognition for its efforts to support organ, eye and tissue donations. The hospital works in partnership with the LifeLink® of Florida, the local organ and tissue recovery program, and Donate Life Florida, the state organ and tissue donor registry. Recently representatives from LifeLink presented the nursing team from the hospital’s intensive care unit with a certificate for Platinum level recognition. The hospital was recognized for conducting organ donation education and donor registration activities between October 2022 and April 2023.
“Through flag raisings, ceremonial honor walks, donor registration events, social media, and community events the hospital honors patients and families who make the decision to donate life. There is hope and help for others that can come from these difficult times,” said Todd Cruz, RN Chief Nursing Officer at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital.
According to LifeLink, more than 5,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving transplant in Florida and every nine minutes, another person is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.
