Our Community Impact

Our network is bound together by a single purpose: to create healthier tomorrows for every patient we serve. This purpose-driven brand reflects the unity of Florida’s extensive network of specialists and dedicated healthcare experts delivering top-quality care to patients across the Sunshine State. Our impact is made possible by our incredible colleagues, communities and strategic partners who embrace HCA Florida Healthcare’s mission and values.

We Show Up

Each year, HCA Florida Healthcare hosts We Show Up for Our Communities Week to enhance where we live and work. In 2023, we volunteered 29,000 hours and committed $1.6 million to community partners in the state.

Our impact throughout Florida

As part of HCA Florida Healthcare — representing major cities and rural communities throughout the state — our care facilities are a part of something bigger. This is demonstrated by the strength in our numbers:

  • More than 650 total sites of care
  • More than 84,000 colleagues and 11,100 physicians
  • More than 11.66 million patient encounters
  • More than 1,000 charitable organizations supported through donations and volunteering
  • More than $1.25 billion in capital investments in Florida in 2023
  • $903 million estimated cost of uncompensated care provided in 2023
  • $5.67 billion in salaries, wages and benefits in 2023

Caring for our Sunshine State communities

Whether through volunteering our time, making charitable donations or partnering with other organizations, we show up for our communities and each other to create healthier tomorrows in Florida.

Inspiring the next generation

Outside the hospital, HCA Florida Healthcare promotes healthcare careers to reduce workforce shortages, increase talent diversity and improve student retention and advancement. Initiatives like Mini Medical University and Pathway to Success expose high school students to career opportunities.

The HCA Florida Healthcare Mini Medical University is a unique learning experience for high school students interested in learning more about the healthcare field. This action-packed, hands-on education program offers practical simulations and direct interaction with healthcare providers.

The Pathway to Success program prepares teens for college and career through first-hand experiences. Through partnerships with community-focused corporations, such as the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, students participate in job shadowing, hands-on demonstrations and one-on-one discussions with HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues.

Championing positive mental wellness

We work to foster a supportive environment for mental wellness and increase access to services for youth and other vulnerable populations. Our partnership with EVERFI provides mental health education and support resources, including an interactive, digital education course aimed at middle and high schoolers.

Caring for our colleagues

We are committed to helping our colleagues achieve their personal and professional goals and ensuring everyone on our team feels fulfilled in their career. This includes mental health services, leadership training and veteran support.

The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund is our colleague-run, colleague-supported 501(c)(3) charity established to help colleagues and families through financial hardship, including in times of natural disaster. In 2023, the Hope Fund administered 40+ grants of more than $101,000 to colleagues and their families impacted by Hurricane Idalia.

Supporting veterans

We have a longstanding connection to the U.S. armed forces, military veterans and their families. Since 2012, we have hired more than 40,000 veterans, active-duty personnel and military spouses. In 2021, the Military Times named HCA Healthcare one of the country’s best employers for military-connected employment programs, benefits and support. We have earned national recognition as a military-friendly employer and military spouse-friendly employer for 11 consecutive years by VIQTORY.
