Sanford, Fla. – To help ensure safety and uninterrupted quality care for our patients, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, with assistance from the Florida National Guard, is installing a Tiger Dam ™ Flood Barrier around the facility to protect it from potential flooding. The Tiger Dam system is an effective flood barrier solution designed to take any shape and protect against rising water levels. The system uses water-filled tubes that can be deployed rapidly to create a temporary flood barrier, helping safeguard the hospital from the threat of flooding.

"As Seminole County’s only Level II Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center and Cardiac Center, our hospital’s top priority is the safety of our patients, staff, and community," said John Gerhold, chief executive officer, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. "The Tiger Dam Flood Barrier is an important component of our comprehensive storm preparations to minimize flooding and provide for safe operation during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton."

Preparedness activities at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital and HCA Florida Healthcare’s four other Orlando-area hospitals include ensuring there is enough staff, medications, supplies, food, water and generator power to continue to operate and care for our patients during and after the storm. As one of the state’s largest healthcare networks, with 650+ sites of care including 48 hospitals, HCA Florida Healthcare has the scale to support our patients, colleagues and facilities anywhere in Hurricane Milton’s path and beyond.

HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital will continue to monitor the storm’s progression and provide updates to the public and staff as necessary. We are in constant communication with local emergency management and healthcare partners to ensure a coordinated response.
