10 years of saving lives: HCA Florida Hunter's Creek Emergency celebrates a decade of service to the community
Freestanding emergency room, HCA Florida Hunter's Creek Emergency, celebrated 10 years of service to the South Orlando and Kissimmee community. Former patients join them in the 10th birthday celebration.
HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek Emergency is celebrating a decade of life-saving service to the community. The facility, one of the first freestanding emergency rooms built in the Orlando area, has cared for more than 210,000 patients with injuries and illnesses ranging from serious to life-threatening since opening its doors in 2014.
“Our emergency care team is honored to be here to provide our community expert medical treatment when healthcare emergencies strike,” said Dr. Jonathan Ortiz, associate medical director of HCA Florida Osceola Hospital and medical director of the hospital’s freestanding emergency departments. “We are grateful to have positively impacted hundreds of thousands of families over the past decade, and look forward to continued service to our Central Florida neighbors.”
In honor of HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek Emergency’s decade of service, HCA Florida Osceola Hospital held a 10th Birthday Carnival for the community this past Saturday. Activities included emergency room and ambulance tours, games, healthcare education, and reunions with caregivers for patients who have been treated at the facility over the past ten years.
This past summer, Robyn Thompson of Orlando awakened with concerning symptoms. She felt groggy, and her hands wouldn’t respond when she tried to use her computer. She was having trouble talking. Thompson’s neighbor rushed her to the closest emergency room, HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek Emergency, just three blocks away from her home. The emergency care team immediately diagnosed a stroke and stabilized her for transfer to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, a certified comprehensive stroke center and Level II trauma center, for further treatment. Thompson credits the close proximity of HCA Hunter’s Creek Emergency and excellent care she received so quickly for her full recovery.
“I noticed the urgency, but everyone was so calm,” Thompson said of the team at HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek Emergency. “The demeanor was professional but caring. Having them right down the street is lifesaving. They saved my life.”
