Minimally invasive surgery
Minimally invasive surgeries use smaller and fewer incisions than traditional or "open" surgeries do. This offers many advantages, including:
- Less harm to surrounding tissue
- Less postoperative pain
- Quicker recovery
- Reduced scarring
- Shorter hospital stays
Many of the minimally invasive surgeries we offer can be performed as outpatient (same-day) procedures and include:
Endoscopic and arthroscopic procedures
These types of procedures involve small incisions and use fiber-optic video cameras as well as catheters (thin, flexible tubes) during the procedure. This allows surgeons and their teams to easily access and readily see a detailed, live video of the surgical site.
Arthroscopic procedures are specifically performed on joints, whereas endoscopic procedures are performed in other areas of the body, as needed.
Laser surgery
This is an innovative minimally invasive technique we are proud to offer. It involves the use of sound waves guided by X-ray or ultrasound to perform procedures.
Laparoscopic surgery
Laparoscopic procedures involve one or more small incisions through which a laparoscope is inserted. This tool has special surgical instruments on it as well as a camera to allow surgeons to easily see the surgical site.
Robotic surgery
Many of the minimally invasive surgeries we perform are robot-assisted procedures. These use incredible, advanced technology that translates a surgeon's hand movements into more precise motions with robotic tools. The surgeon is nearby and always in full control of the robotic systems, which provides them with tiny surgical tools and highly detailed views of the surgical site. This amplifies the benefits of minimally invasive surgery and allows you to recover even faster.

Pre- and postoperative care
When possible, we encourage our patients to get to know their doctors and surgeons. We want you to feel comfortable with your surgical teams and to know they are experts who can provide high-quality care.
These teams will offer you preoperative instructions and be available to answer your questions. These instructions usually include the types of medications you can and cannot take beforehand, as well as rules around eating and drinking the night before your procedure. There may also be other preparations you need to make.
After surgery, we offer just as much careful attention and care as before your procedure. You'll have teams around you providing constant support and reassurance. They will give you discharge instructions that include what you need to do at home in the days and weeks ahead. They will also make sure you get access to the resources you need to recover, such as physical therapy and rehabilitation programs.
Whatever procedure you've had, we'll continue to provide ongoing education and follow-up care for as long as you need it. However, be sure to speak with your surgical team if you have other questions before or after surgery.
