When Mike Richardson came to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital’s inpatient physical rehabilitation, he needed assistance with all his basic care needs after suffering a devastating stroke. It was humbling for Mike, who is a big guy, towering at 6'3".

Despite the immense challenges, Mike persevered making slow progress to regain mobility in his body. It was really tough, but the rehab team cared for Mike like family and pushed him every day. Their dedication was unwavering. And it paid off, Mike walked out of the rehab center. Today, he is back enjoying some of his favorite activities and picking up some new ones too. He’s developed a love for fishing and caught eight fish the other day.

He was able to give a hug with his right arm, when he returned for a recent visit to Brandon Hospital. Movement in that arm had just returned the prior week. He is grateful to the team at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital for helping him recover from his stroke and looks forward to living life to the fullest.

Watch Mike’s story of determination and recovery.
