Tricia Riveros was having a night like any other — until she felt a sharp, pulling sensation below her rib cage. Knowing something wasn't right, she asked her husband to drive her to Poinciana Hospital, where she had been serving as a volunteer for more than two years. After being admitted, Tricia was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.

During her hospitalization, Tricia was calmed by her positive and attentive care team.

"I really thought I would be going home that night. I'd never been hospitalized before," Tricia said. "Dr. Cerrada took the time to explain my illness and clarify any questions my family had."

That understanding empowered Tricia to take control of her health after being discharged. Today, she says, she is taking preventative measures, like paying more attention to what she eats and maintaining a low fat diet. With her health under control, Tricia is back to doing the things she loves: spending time with her family, playing with her three dogs and giving back to others in her community like her, volunteering at Poinciana Hospital.
