As we celebrate Veterans Day, we join our HCA Healthcare family in honoring the contributions and commitment of colleagues like Sean DeLancey, the regional AVP of medical transport at HCA Florida Healthcare.

“I’m privileged to oversee operations for medical transportation across multiple divisions,” Sean shares. “It’s a role where I can combine my experiences from both the military and hospital operations to ensure the best care for our patients.” Sean’s extensive experience speaks to a commitment to service that began with the military’s rigorous training and leadership development. “The military prepared me for my role today by instilling critical leadership skills and teaching me how to navigate challenging, high-stress situations. Like HCA Healthcare, the military emphasizes leadership growth, and I’m grateful for those skills and values,” Sean reflects.

Veterans making a difference in medical transport

With veterans serving across HCA Florida Healthcare’s medical transport teams, the influence of military-trained professionals is evident. Each veteran positively impacts our communities through their service in and outside of the hospital.

“Veterans bring a strong work ethic and diverse skill sets to our department, and their dedication to the team and our patients is remarkable,” Sean says.

Commitment to patient comfort and safety

Safety and comfort are at the forefront of HCA Florida Healthcare’s medical transport experience, thanks to cutting-edge equipment and a highly trained team. “Our investment in top-of-the-line equipment ensures that our paramedics, EMTs and nurses can provide the best care possible, especially when handling critical cases,” Sean explains. “Just as veterans are trained to act decisively under pressure, HCA Florida Healthcare medical transport teams are prepared to offer steady, compassionate care no matter the circumstances.”

The spirit of teamwork and resilience

The work ethic veterans bring to medical transport is particularly vital in challenging situations, such as natural disasters. “Recently, our teams were called upon to assist with evacuations during Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Hundreds of patients needed safe transport, and our team delivered,” Sean recalls. This dedication to service resonates deeply in these moments, where the ability to adapt and support each other is essential.

Veterans Day: Honoring continued service

Sean offers encouragement for veterans considering a career in medical transport: “Medical transport at HCA Florida Healthcare is a growing field, with opportunities to advance as both leaders and clinicians. I encourage veterans to reach out and explore this path with us, where their skills and dedication can make a lasting impact on patient care.”

HCA Healthcare is proud to have thousands of military colleagues, having hired more than 60,000 veterans, active duty personnel and military spouses since 2012.
