Orthopedic surgery
Our hospital campus has a dedicated unit for preoperative education, which includes our orthopedic camp. Here, you will meet with our staff for an educational session about your surgery and have an opportunity to ask questions.
Our orthopedic surgeons treat diseases affecting the entire musculoskeletal system. Some of our procedures include:
- Discectomy
- Fracture repair
- Hip arthroscopy
- Intrathecal pump placement
- Laminectomy
- Partial knee replacement
- Peripheral nerve surgery
- Peroneal nerve release
- Reverse total shoulder surgery
- Shoulder arthroscopy
- Spinal decompression
- Total ankle replacement
- Total hip replacement
- Total knee replacement
- Total shoulder replacement
- Wrist fracture repair
Joint replacement
Robotic surgery is now being used to perform total knee and hip replacement procedures. This type of minimally invasive surgery allows us to operate with assistance from robot-assisted technology. The surgeon remains in control of the technology during the entire procedure.
Hip replacement surgery
We use advanced surgical technology and the new direct anterior approach to hip replacement. This approach is one of the least invasive surgical options and offers several potential benefits.
The procedure uses a specialized surgical table that allows our surgeons to work in between the muscles, instead of detaching them from the hip or thighbones. This method allows for less tissue disturbance and smaller surgical incisions.
The anterior approach to hip replacement allows a faster recovery time and aids in precise placement of a prosthesis. The result is better function and a longer-lasting joint, compared to traditional hip replacement surgery.
You can take our online hip health risk assessment to find out if hip replacement surgery is an option for you.
Knee replacement surgery
When possible, we prefer to use robot-assisted technology for partial and total knee replacement surgery. This technology helps align and orient instruments to place implants. Robot-assisted surgery may shorten your hospital stay, improve joint stability and decrease physical rehabilitation time.
If you're unsure whether our knee replacement surgery is right for you, our online knee health risk assessment may be able to help.
Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) program
We participate in Medicare's CJR program, which promotes high-quality, cost-efficient and coordinated care for adults undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery.
Our hospital works closely with physicians and post-acute care providers to improve quality and coordinate care. The CJR program permits facilities to enter into gain-sharing relationships with physician collaborators to share in the success of the program.
Spine care
At the Spine & Brain Institute of North Florida, our multidisciplinary team of neurologists, spine specialists and orthopedists use a comprehensive approach to treating spine injuries and disorders. We provide personalized spine care for a wide range of conditions. Depending on your condition, we may recommend spine surgery or more conservative treatments, such as pain management and physical therapy.
Orthopedic rehabilitation
Following an orthopedic procedure, such as a knee or hip replacement, physical therapy and rehabilitation are essential to promoting recovery. Physical therapy often begins during your hospital stay, and you may be required to continue therapy after discharge to further regain strength and movement.
Our orthopedic care team
To provide you a truly comprehensive approach to care, our multidisciplinary team is staffed by:
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Physical therapists
- Case managers
- Dietitians
