In all the excitement of relocating to the Poinciana area, Dorothy Scarlett’s health took a back seat to seemingly more urgent priorities, like unpacking and getting settled. After a routine visit to her primary care doctor, however, she immediately regretted not paying better attention to her eating habits. “I was told I had low levels of Hemoglobin, which meant a potential problem in my digestive tract.”

Dorothy was referred to a gastroenterologist and scheduled for a colonoscopy at the nearby Poinciana Hospital. On the day of the procedure, she was nervous and worried what the test results might show, but the hospital’s staff helped put her at ease. “I was greeted by a kind, caring and knowledgeable medical team. They made sure I had a thorough understanding of the entire procedure and didn’t rush me through any questions or concerns I had.”

Thankfully, Dorothy’s results showed no signs of serious problems in her colon. While the news came as a huge relief to her, the entire experience was a reminder that her health should always come first — no matter what major life events are taking place. “I’m grateful to have a local hospital like Poinciana Hospital to turn to for quick diagnostic testing and treatment — especially one that treats patients with kindness and compassion. When it comes to easing patient anxiety and getting through a nerve-wracking time, that extra human touch makes all the difference.”
