HUDSON, Fla – Following the opening of a new, $85-million patient tower, HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital has embarked on several clinical enhancements incorporating advanced medical technologies designed to create the best-possible care experience.

The 392-bed, full-service acute care hospital has opened a new, hybrid operating room combining a traditional operating room with an image-guided interventional suite. Larger than a typical operating room, the hybrid operating room enables medical teams to perform minimally-invasive cardiovascular and vascular procedures such as valve replacement, aneurysm repair and treatments for congenital heart and coronary artery disease.

“Minimally-invasive procedures made possible by the hybrid operating room have proven to improve patient outcomes and reduce hospital stays and recovery times,” says Sally Seymour, chief executive officer of HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital.

While the space is primarily used for cardiovascular and vascular procedures, it also can be used for other surgical purposes. The hospital also houses 10 traditional operating rooms and two open-heart surgery rooms.

In another clinical advancement, HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital has completed the transition to an advanced MRI software which captures significantly higher-quality images in shorter timeframes, anywhere from 3-40 minutes, depending on the type of scan.

Faster and quieter scanning is especially significant for patients with physical limitations or those who have difficulty tolerating traditional MRI procedures, Seymour adds. Plus, the new technology eliminates the need for long breath holds.

The hospital also is updating two of its catheterization labs with new equipment for cardiovascular tests and procedures.

Located at 14000 Fivay Road in Hudson, HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital is a Verified Level 2 Trauma Center, and the only trauma center in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties, for its 24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons, as well as coverage in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care.

The full-service acute care hospital is also a Comprehensive Stroke Center and has earned several Healthgrades accolades including the Patient Safety Excellence Award in 2022 and 2023, America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery for five consecutive years, America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Spine Surgery for five consecutive years, America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Vascular Surgery, a Surgical Care Excellence Award for two consecutive years, and a Gastrointestinal Surgery Excellence Award.

HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital is affiliated with HCA Florida Healthcare, a family of more than 650 affiliated sites of care, including hospitals, physician practices and freestanding emergency rooms. United as a statewide network in 2022, HCA Florida Healthcare includes approximately 11,000 experienced doctors and 79,000 colleagues working together to deliver advanced, collaborative care to more than 8.6 million patients each year.
