Lawnwood Hospital Selected as National Honor Society Project Holiday Donation Recipient
Today, Lawnwood Hospital received more than $1,500 in toys and clothing from local students.
HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, a 435-bed full-service acute care facility and part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the largest healthcare system in the state, today received more than $1,500 in toys and clothing from local students Gianna Myers, Julie Mesic and Jayden Howard.
As part of a National Honor Society project, the team placed donation boxes in the main offices and cafeterias of the Fort Pierce Westwood Academy and the Marine Oceanography Academy. Additional donation bins were placed at a local attorney's office, commercial real estate businesses and a physician's practice.
“We have the deepest admiration for the philanthropic spirit demonstrated by these students,” said Lawnwood Hospital children's services director Marissa O'Dowd. “They put in a lot of hard work and dedication to ensure sick children and their families will experience the joy of the holiday season.”
Myers, Mesic and Howard created posters and flyers for campus bulletin boards and classrooms to publicize their efforts. The team also made regular public announcements on both school campuses.
“We are thrilled the project was a huge success,” said Gianna Myers. “We filled four boxes with donated items and raised $500 for additional gifts.”
Lawnwood Hospital features a 12-bed pediatric unit and 6-bed pediatric ICU specifically designed to meet the needs of newborns, young children and adolescents. It is the only facility on the Treasure Coast with a pediatric intensive care unit and is home to the largest Level III NICU. Lawnwood Hospital also has a dedicated pediatric emergency room staffed with board-certified emergency physicians specially trained in pediatric medicine.
