An asthma sufferer his whole life, Rick Segal was accustomed to getting routine nebulizer treatments to aid his breathing. Realizing one treatment hadn't been as effective as usual, he returned to Poinciana Hospital the following day for what he assumed would be a longer secondary treatment. To Rick's surprise, his physician ordered a series of tests and quickly diagnosed him with pneumonia. "I can easily say that doctor saved my life," Rick said.

As surprised as he was by the diagnosis, Rick was immediately calmed by the hospital's professional staff who communicated what to expect with compassion and transparency. This was especially important when a bacterial infection took hold, requiring Rick to stay at Poinciana Hospital for nearly a week. "While no one wants to be in the hospital for that long, my stay exceeded my expectations. The hospital room was comfortable and had space for visitors, the staff delivered excellent care, and the food, I can honestly say, was very good."

Before being discharged, Rick's care team prepped him for what would be a slow recovery. Today, he continues a steady progression toward restored health, noting that being properly informed and prepared has made a big difference. "I want to thank my doctors and nurses for an outstanding job. The staff at Poinciana Hospital is the heart of the hospital. And the care I received was as good as you could get anywhere."
