A-fib management essential for stroke prevention
HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital invites you to a free, interactive educational session on stroke prevention. Join board-certified interventional cardiologist Georges J. Joseph, MD, as he discusses the connection between A-fib and strokes; how treating A-fib can lower your risk of severe, life-altering strokes; and answer your questions during a live Q&A session.
HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital invites the community to Stroke Prevention by Recognizing and Treating Atrial Fibrillation, an interactive educational session to learn about atrial fibrillation treatment to prevent stroke risk.
The session, presented by board-certified interventional cardiologist Georges J. Joseph, MD, will be held on Monday, February 24 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm. Dr. Joseph will answer questions from the audience following the presentation.
More than 795,000 Americans suffer strokes every year, estimates the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Joseph hopes to bring awareness about how atrial fibrillation (A-fib) may contribute to ischemic strokes with the goal of stroke prevention for the community.
The American Heart Association estimates that more than two million Americans may have undiagnosed A-fib. According to the CDC, strokes associated with A-fib tend to be more severe than strokes with other underlying causes. A-fib may or not have symptoms, which makes it particularly important for people of all ages to routinely see their doctor.
“Treating and controlling A-fib is an effective method to reducing stroke risk,” said Dr. Georges J. Joseph, interventional cardiologist at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. “A-fib is associated with an elevated risk of ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke in the country.”
Strokes are the leading cause of serious long-term disability in the United States and can happen to anyone regardless of age. Proper treatment of A-fib can help manage the condition, reduce the risk of stroke and improve life expectancy.
The community talk will take place 2:00pm – 3:00pm Monday, February 24, 2025 on the campus of HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital – Nature Coast Medical Pavilion conference room, 11371 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville. RSVP by calling (888) 741-5120, or register online.
