HCA Fawcett Hospital Medical Staff Generously Donates $20,000 to YMCA of Southwest Florida to Support Children’s Programs at Cooper Street Recreation Center
In a heartfelt demonstration of community support, the Fawcett Hospital Medical Staff has pledged a generous donation of $20,000 to YMCA of Southwest Florida’s Punta Gorda branch to benefit underserved children at the Cooper Street Recreation Center. This is in addition to a previous donation of $10,000 made in 2023 to support the YMCA mission to strengthen the community.
This substantial contribution underscores the commitment of the medical staff to the well-being of the community, particularly focusing on initiatives that directly impact the lives of children.
Dr. Alaina Hunt, President of the Medical Staff and Chair of the Medical Executive Committee expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “we recognize the importance of investing in the future of our community. By supporting the Y's efforts to empower underserved kids, we aim to create a lasting impact and contribute to the overall well-being of our local youth."
YMCA of Southwest Florida’s Board Member and Charlotte County School Board Member, Kim Amontree, described Dr. Klein’s passion for the children of Cooper Street. "We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation by our local physicians. Dr. Klein was a longtime member of the Medical Staff, President of New Operation Cooper Street and a strong supporter of the YMCA. This donation is a wonderful way for his colleagues to honor his memory. His heart was always with the children of this community and working together to improve their lives.”
YMCA of Southwest Florida has been providing youth services at Cooper Street Recreation Center since the Summer of 2022. YMCA Youth Development programs provide families high-quality resources for childcare while providing educational services that help build the foundational skills needed to succeed. Children also are provided healthy meals and snacks and participate in physical activity. In 2023, the Y served 95 children in Summer Camp, 73 children in Before and After School Enrichment programs and provided 10,514 meals. And through its academic curriculum, 7,283 books were read and 700 hours of tutoring were offered.
The funds will be utilized by the Y to enhance existing programs and continue providing essential resources and opportunities for underserved children. This donation will contribute significantly to the Y's mission of fostering a positive, safe environment for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Y is deeply grateful for the generosity of the Fawcett Hospital Medical Staff and looks forward to utilizing this donation to create meaningful and lasting change in the lives of children in our community.
