ICU love story
Nurses find love in the ICU.
Ronnie Johnson, RN was a long time intensive care unit (ICU) nurse who worked night shift. Shonna Rush, RN worked on the progressive care unit (PCU) but on day shift at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital. They never crossed paths until October 2022. Shonna took a temporary assignment to help out on the night shift. Her very first night on the job, she was assigned to work in the ICU. When asked if she thought she would meet her future husband in the ICU she said laughed and said, “Absolutely not.”
The ICU nurses were friends for six months, working side by side on night shift until one day they decided to go out for sushi together. After that, she says they both knew it was true love. “Our managers and colleagues have been very supportive of us. We have a great family atmosphere at the hospital for sure. The hospital played a huge part in our love story,” said Shonna.
Both nurses are highly regarded at the hospital. Recently Ronnie was selected as colleague of the month for ICU and Shonna earned colleague of the month for PCU. The awards are based on nominations from their coworkers. The couple was married in January and recently returned from their honeymoon. They look forward to continuing to work together, on dayshift now.
