Top rankings among the nation's hospitals earned by HCA Florida Lake City Hospital
Healthgrades recognizes Lake City Hospital among top 10% of hospitals in the nation for patient safety for seven years in a row.
HCA Florida Lake City Hospital announced today that it has been recognized with a 2024 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ by Healthgrades, a comprehensive database of ratings and comparisons for physicians, hospitals and healthcare providers. HCA Florida Lake City Hospital is among 31 HCA Florida Healthcare hospitals receiving the prestigious award this year for high-quality care and prevention of serious safety events during hospital stays.
This year marks the seventh year in a row HCA Florida Lake City Hospital has received the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™. Additionally, Healthgrades named HCA Florida Lake City Hospital among the top 10% hospitals in the nation for patient safety for seven years in a row (2018 – 2024).
“Receiving these significant awards and being recognized as a national leader is a direct result of the dedication of our physicians, nurses, and clinicians who strive to provide excellent care for patients,” said Jill Adams, CEO of HCA Florida Lake City Hospital. “It is a pleasure to serve Columbia, Suwannee, and Hamilton counties and provide quality care close to home for our neighbors.”
According to this year’s Healthgrades report, if all hospitals observed the same protocols as those in this category, they could have avoided more than 97,000 patient safety events between 2020 and 2022. The analysis revealed that patients treated at award-recipient hospitals are significantly less likely to experience serious safety events compared to patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.
“As consumers take a more hands-on approach to their healthcare journeys, hospital quality should be a top consideration when choosing where to receive care,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “Our goal at Healthgrades is to offer direct, data-driven insights on the hospitals that make the safety and experience of their patients a top priority and consistently deliver exceptional results in this aspect of care. With this information, consumers can feel confident they’re making the most informed decisions about their healthcare.”

To identify the top-performing hospitals for outpatient orthopedic surgery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes at short-term acute care facilities nationwide that offer critical orthopedic procedures in an outpatient environment, including back & neck surgery, knee replacement, hip replacement, and rotator cuff surgery. Healthgrades’ analysis found that patients treated at hospitals that have been recognized for excellence in outpatient orthopedic surgery have a demonstrably better chance at a smooth recovery than those treated at hospitals that were not recognized by Healthgrades. In fact, between 2020 and 2022, patients treated at hospitals receiving the Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™ had, on average, a 40% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated at hospitals that did not receive the award. *
