Oviedo Medical Center announces $80 million expansion
Oviedo Medical Center began construction on additional surgical suites, expanded ICU and the fourth floor this month.
Oviedo, FL — In response to the growing healthcare needs of Seminole and Orange counties, Oviedo Medical Center, an affiliate of HCA Florida Healthcare, announced today an $80 million expansion of its operating rooms, intensive care and medical/surgical units.
Expected to be completed by Spring 2024, the first phase of the project will increase the number of Oviedo Medical Center’s surgical suites from five to nine operating rooms while adding a new Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
The expansion will more than double Oviedo Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit capacity from 10 to 24 beds. The vertical addition of the 4th floor and 24 additional inpatient medical/surgical beds is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2024. This will bring the total inpatient bed count from 64 to 102.
HCA Healthcare has remained committed to providing acute care services to residents of Oviedo and East Seminole County since the opening of Oviedo ER in 2013. In 2017, the company opened Oviedo Medical Center, the only full-service acute care hospital in the region. Since that time, as Oviedo and surrounding communities have grown, so has the need for inpatient and surgical services. Last year, Oviedo Medical Center completed an expansion of the surgical suites. They also expanded access to emergency care with the opening of HCA Florida Baldwin Park Emergency in 2019. According to KC Donahey, CEO, Oviedo Medical Center, the hospital’s newest expansion will fill a critical need.
“Oviedo Medical Center is committed to continuing to offer quality, innovative care to our community,” Donahey said. “With this expansion, we will have increased capacity to meet the growing needs of the residents and visitors of Seminole and Orange counties.”
Oviedo Medical Center currently employs more than 570 staff members. Additionally, the hospital has over 590 credentialed physicians and advanced practice professionals as part of its medical staff.
