Physicians donate to HCA Healthcare Hope Fund
Fund that helps hospital colleagues affected by financial hardships gets support from physicians.
Members of the Medical Executive Committee on behalf of the Medical Staff at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital recently presented a check for $10,000 to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund. The money will be used to help hospital employees affected by financial hardships. “We serve alongside our hospital colleagues every day to help our community and sometimes those colleagues need a little help themselves. All the money goes directly to those in need, so it is a great way to show our support and thanks for all they do for us and our patients,” said John Averyt, MD pathologist and President of Medical Staff at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital.
After Hurricane Ian in 2022, an occupational therapist at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital needed help when her home was damaged in the storm. Another colleague who works in the food and nutrition department needed help after an unexpected hospitalization. Both turned to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund. The Hope Fund is a colleague run and supported 501(c)3 charity that helps employees and their immediate families affected by financial hardships. It is funded by donations by colleagues, affiliated physicians, patients and the general public. 3,500 families affiliated with HCA Healthcare were helped last year and $10.7 million dollars in assistance was provided.
