HCA Florida Trinity Hospital was recently honored with the 2022 Excellence for Maternal Awards for its commitment to maternal health care and supporting healthy outcomes for mothers and newborns. The award was presented to recognize Florida hospitals surpassing the Healthy People 2030 target goal of 23.6% for optimizing C-section rates among first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies, known as the NTSV (Nulliparous, Term, Singleton, Vertex) cesarean birth rate.

“At HCA Florida Trinity Hospital we are very proud to be recognized for the patient-focused care we provide in supporting our mothers and healthy births,” said Gina McManus, director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Trinity Hospital. “Achieving optimal NTSV- C-section rates involve the informed and collaborative efforts of our nurses, providers and patients.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that of the total number of cesarean births in 2019, 25.6% were among the low-risk pregnancy NTSV population. Nationwide, nearly nine in 10 women who deliver via C-section with their first pregnancy have a C-section with subsequent pregnancies, increasing the risk of dangerous or long-term complications.

HCA Florida Trinity Hospital provides patients access to the staff and resources needed to manage both routine and complex pregnancies. Providers utilize evidence-based practices and advanced technology, such as wireless fetal monitoring, to promote safe and efficient deliveries. The hospital recently expanded its Women’s Services programs bed capacity and is currently involved in an expansion of its Labor and Delivery service.
