Bob Duchatkiewicz

Bob Duchatkiewicz’s first experience with Capital Hospital came in 2011 when he was having some flu-like symptoms. As a veteran, he received primary care through the local Veteran's Administration office. Feeling sick, he called the VA who sent him to the Emergency Department at the hospital. As it turned out, he was suffering from pneumonia, but also had serious cardiac issues.

“I don’t have the typical symptoms most cardiac patients experience,” said Bob. “I don’t get the crushing pain in my chest. If anything, I get lightheaded.” So, benefitting from the cardiac expertise at Capital Hospital put Bob on a path to safer heart health. “I ended up having bypass surgery as a result of my heart attack in 2011. That began my true appreciation for Capital Hospital, its physicians, and staff.”

When Bob’s primary care physician at the VA retired, he decided to turn more of his healthcare management over to Carey Dellock, MD., an Interventional Cardiologist with Capital Cardiology Specialists. “I’m a ‘show-me’ person and she is very good at explaining what is happening with your health, and the benefits and risks of any procedure or treatment,” he said. “Her staff is excellent as well. I know I can always get proper attention and an answer to my questions when I call her office.”

Over the past several years, Bob has needed to have several stents implanted and has had other procedures like a knee replacement, performed at Capital Hospital. “I’ve been hospitalized there a dozen times and have always felt that Dr. Dellock and the hospital staff did a good job. As a retired General Contractor, I appreciate buildings, and I’m impressed that the hospital is well-kept and offers a safe environment for its patients.”

Bob says he has great faith in the hospital, so much so that he is confident that his wife’s scheduled bypass surgery will offer a good outcome for her as well. “I trust them to take great care of my wife.” At age 75, Bob continues to work on his health and participates in an exercise program at the hospital’s Wellness Center twice a week. “We’re so fortunate to have a hospital like Capital Hospital in our community. I highly recommend them to everyone.”
