Eric Sigler's Colon Cancer Battle: How Early Detection Saved His Life

For Eric Sigler, stomach pain was something he thought he could push through—until it became unbearable. At just 36 years old, he never expected to hear the words "You have colon cancer."

A visit to HCA Florida Citrus Hospital changed everything. A CT scan revealed a mass that required immediate attention. Under the care of Dr. Farhaad Golkar, Eric underwent a right hemicolectomy, removing part of his colon and over 50 lymph nodes. With just one positive lymph node, chemotherapy is the next step, but his prognosis is excellent.

Now, cancer-free, Eric is looking forward to traveling more, experiencing life, and spreading awareness. His message is clear: “Don’t wait for your body to tell you something’s wrong. If you have a family history, get screened.”

Doctors recommend getting a colonoscopy 10 years before your relative’s diagnosis to detect cancer early.
