Local community physician receives life-saving care from HCA Florida Largo Hospital
Dr. Stephen Igel, a doctor at HCA Florida Largo Hospital for over 42 years, found himself admitted into their ER following a serious stroke.
Today, you will find Dr. Stephen Igel walking the halls, greeting staff with a smile and sharing a laugh through his gregarious sense of humor. Just a few months ago, Dr. Igel found himself on the other end of the stethoscope as a patient. At approximately 8 pm one evening he fell to the floor at his home after a sudden onset of weakness throughout the entire right side of his body. He had experienced a serious stroke and when his wife returned home, she immediately called 911. He was taken to HCA Florida Largo Hospital by EMS where his team performed an emergent procedure to remove several blood clots with an excellent outcome.
“I am so thankful for the team at Largo Hospital for their quick and efficient care in my time of need” shared Dr. Igel.
Carlotta Cheeseman, ER nurse at HCA Florida Largo Hospital was one of the first caregivers to greet Dr. Igel when he was brought into the ER. Carlotta and Dr. Igel share a special bond with both of them celebrating their 42-year anniversary at Largo Hospital this year. Additionally, Dr. Igel delivered two of her children, one of whom was born at Largo Hospital in 1998.
“Dr. Igel cared for me during two of the most memorable moments of my life, the births of two of my sons. He has had a huge impact on me and my family. To be able to care for him and his family during this time has been incredibly humbling” shared Carlotta.
