Madison & Jake Taddeo

Madison and Jake Taddeo were anxiously anticipating the birth of their second baby. The birthing experience was quite long as Madison was diagnosed with cholestasis which can put the baby at risk. Their obstetrician, Dr. Bert Morales of HCA Florida Capital Women’s Health planned for an induction at 37 weeks. Madison says, “We tried inducing for four days and all sorts of different methods and medicines later, I still wasn’t in labor. At that point, we knew the baby had to come out so we agreed to a c-section. I have to say that all of the labor and delivery nurses and the midwives were absolutely wonderful and made the stressful situation as comfortable as they could! With this being my first c-section and also my first major surgery, everyone made me feel as comfortable as possible and the actual delivery was very smooth.”

“Following Jamie’s big entrance, I could immediately tell he wasn’t breathing correctly. Our first child also had respiratory issues so I knew what the crying was not supposed to sound like. The nurse anesthetist kept me calm but I knew something was wrong and I knew we were going to have another baby in the NICU.”

Jamie was diagnosed with Respiratory Distress Syndrome. A bit later, he developed a pneumothorax that had to be needle aspirated. He was intubated and on a ventilator for a brief period while allowing him to him to rest and recover. He received IV fluids while he was unable to eat and has since been able to start breastfeeding and is doing well.

Madison says, “Dr. Gayed and all of the nurses did an excellent job answering our hundreds of questions and every time we had to leave the NICU, we knew he was in the best hands possible. It was very clear they were all very knowledgeable in their field and our little boy was getting the best care.” 

“I made the change to switch OB providers and deliver at HCA Florida Capital Hospital halfway through my pregnancy. I heard they were opening a NICU shortly before my due date and bringing in great nurses and providers. Having already had a NICU experience with our daughter at another facility, I decided that just in case anything was to happen, I wanted to make sure that everything was new, updated, and had the best of the best, and I was right! I also wanted a more personal experience with an obstetrician, which definitely was the case with Dr. Morales, who I found to be very knowledgeable, thorough, and attentive.”
