Steve Ecenia
When Steve Ecenia needed a knee replacement, he knew he would turn to the orthopedic surgery staff at Capital Hospital, his family's long-term hospital choice.
For local attorney Steve Ecenia, Capital Hospital has been his family’s hospital for years. “My children were born there so I knew the facility was clean and well-run. I’ve also heard really good things about it in the community. Its services and staff have earned a great reputation.” So, when it was time for him to undergo surgery, the choice was clear.
In March, Andrew Wong, MD, a board certified, orthopedic surgeon performed knee replacement surgery on Mr. Ecenia. “I had a torn ligament 30 years ago that caused some pain, but the wear and tear over time resulted in bone on bone which was becoming debilitating,” he said. As an avid golfer, cycler, and snow skier, the 63-year-old said the condition of his knee was impacting his quality of life. “I was at a point where I wasn’t able to enjoy those activities like I had in the past.”
Mr. Ecenia benefitted from Capital Hospital’s Joint Commission Certified Hip and Knee Replacement Program. Its team includes physicians like Dr. Wong, specially trained orthopedic nurses, and physical therapists. “I was there for two nights," he said. “My room was very nice. The staff was extremely attentive. Not only did the nursing staff come in to check on me frequently, so did their supervisors. Everyone from nursing, to food services, to lab techs — everybody — had a great attitude.”
Mr. Ecenia said his surgery and recovery went very well and he was able to finish his physical rehabilitation as an outpatient. “I’m doing great. I appreciate the expert care I received at Capital Hospital and I recommend their services to all my friends and family. It’s a great comfort knowing we have a high-quality hospital with such a broad range of services right here in Tallahassee.”
