Wayne Pride came to the HCA Florida Capital Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Center after an extensive hospital stay for an injury to his spine. When he arrived, he was nearly a quadriplegic, he could not swallow, required a feeding tube to eat, and required 24/7 nursing care. After a lengthy and arduous stay, through the help of his care team he was able to regain most of his strength and the ability to walk.
His biggest goal, other than being able to walk again, was to be able to eat regular food again. He was very excited several days before discharge, when the speech pathologist was able to clear him to begin eating orally. Wayne was able to go home with only the aid of a walker, and he was very appreciative of the care and compassion he received.
