Thomas describes his journey treating heart disease with Westside Hospital.
"Heart Disease is the #1 cause of death for men and it's important to catch it early. Some common symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath and dizziness. However, it's important to come to an ER if you feel any of these symptoms." — Dr. Robert Farivar, a board-certified cardiovascular surgeon at Westside Hospital.
In honor of #MensHealthMonth, here's a special story from one of Dr. Farivar's patients:
"I finally decided to come to Westside Hospital's ER because I hadn't slept in 3 days and had fluctuating blood pressure. I got an echocardiogram and that's when we found out I had heart disease and would need to undergo surgery. Although this may sound scary, I was always very comfortable. Everyone at the hospital was always attentive. If I needed anything, they were ready to help me. I didn't come in and expect heart surgery. It was like BAM and out of nowhere, but it had to be done. They were also very efficient. It was like in and out. When I was at the hospital's CVICU, Monica and Sue went above and beyond. They were exceptional. During the night, I kept waking up every hour, wanting different things and they made it happen. After the CVICU, I was then admitted to the 1st floor. The nurses Chris and Lauren were also exceptional. They helped me out a lot when I was very short of breath and having to use the bathroom. The Lab tech also gave me a bath every single night at 1 am. She took great care of me. I'm very satisfied with everything and everyone here at Westside Hospital, but I haven't been away from my dog in two years, so I can't wait to go home and see him." — Thomas, open heart surgery patient at Westside Hospital
