ICU
The ICU, or intensive care unit, is the department of the hospital where you can receive specialized care and monitoring from multidisciplinary care teams. You may need to be in the ICU during times of critical illness or after certain surgeries, to ensure you recover fully.

When a loved one needs intensive and critical care in Palm Beach County, Florida, we are here to provide 24/7 care and support.
At HCA Florida JFK Hospital, we provide Lake Worth residents and the surrounding communities access to a 55-bed ICU. Our ICU offers specialized care through close monitoring and advanced medical equipment for anyone who is seriously ill, critically injured or recovering from surgery.
Our critical care services
Working together, our ICU physicians, nurses and support staff provide around-the-clock critical care.
Intensivist approach to care
We are the first hospital in the area to use intensivists. These physicians specialize in caring for critically ill patients in the ICU and have extra training in pulmonary care and critical care medicine. Intensivists coordinate the care provided by nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals as needed by the patient.
Additionally, intensivists provide continuous medical assessment and are able to address subtle changes in clinical conditions early on. When problems do arise, one of our intensivists is immediately available to intervene. This approach to care results in improved patient outcomes and shorter ICU stays for our patients.
Neuro intensive care unit
As part of our comprehensive neurological care program, our hospital is home to a neuro ICU. Here, patients recovering from a cerebrovascular accident (stroke), neurological trauma or neurosurgery can receive focused, attentive care. Nurses in our neuro ICU have received special training in neurological assessment and are able to provide comprehensive education to patients and their families following a stroke.
