Volunteering at our hospital

HCA Florida Mercy Hospital offers volunteer opportunities to people to contribute their time to improve the quality of services offered to our patients, family members, physicians and staff. Additionally, the great satisfaction gained by volunteers makes the experience truly worthwhile. If you are motivated to donate your time and talents and want to give back to your community, we invite you to join the dedicated group of volunteers at our hospital.

Pastoral services

The Pastoral Care department makes it a point to send a member of its staff to visit each new patient and explain to them the many services provided. After the initial visit, the patient is visited periodically unless the patient wishes otherwise.

The HCA Florida Mercy Hospital Chapel is open and welcomes anyone who seeks the comfort of prayer or a quiet moment of meditation. Located on the second floor of the North Wing, the Chapel is open from 6:00am to 6:30pm daily.

For those interested in attending Mass, the services are held at the following times:

  • Sunday through Friday: 8:30am (English) and 12:00pm (Spanish)
  • Saturday: 8:30am (English) and 4:00pm (Spanish)

    • After morning mass, we give patients the opportunity to receive Holy Communion in their rooms. If patients want to receive the sacrament, they should advise their nurses to put their names on a list. Our Pastoral Care department also offers patients the Sacrament of the Sick and Reconciliation, both available by requesting a visit from a priest. For patients of other religious denominations, a Pastoral Care representative will be glad to notify their pastors, ministers or rabbis.

For additional questions or special requests, please call (305) 285-2716.

HCA Florida Mercy Hospital Catholic identity statement

In witness of Jesus' healing mission, HCA Florida Mercy Hospital strives to improve the well-being of those served through a healthcare delivery system designed to promote wellness and cure illness. As a ministry of the Roman Catholic Church, we are committed to being a transforming, healing presence within our community.

Adopting the spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, in "working to achieve unity of neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God," we attest to the value of human life in all its cycles. This is done through respect for the unborn and recognition of the transcendent meaning of suffering and death by combining professional excellence with a compassionate concern for the whole person.

We seek to understand and respond to the needs of our community through collaboration with others that share a common mission and vision. With attention to fiscal responsibility, quality services are made available and accessible to those who need them.

Ministry services

At HCA Florida Mercy Hospital, we extend Jesus' healing ministry by caring for the whole person and nurturing the health of the people in our community by providing for the physical, mental and spiritual needs of every patient we see. Since the hospital's opening in 1950, the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida, is still very much a part of HCA Florida Mercy Hospital, and as Miami-Dade's only acute-care Catholic hospital, we adhere to the Ethical and Religious Directives of Catholic Health Care Services.
