Preoperative joint replacement education
Through our orthopedic surgery Joint Venture program, we offer patients a preoperative educational class before their surgery led by a nurse certified in orthopedics. Our class allows patients to prepare for surgery and gain knowledge regarding the care they will receive during their hospital stay. We believe patients who are better informed and are active participants in their care can have better surgical outcomes.
Patients can expect the following from our joint replacement class:
- An introduction to our orthopedic care team
- An opportunity to ask any questions and ease anxieties related to the upcoming surgery
- An overview of what to expect before, during and after surgery
- A discharge planner teaches patients about home recovery, the types of special equipment needed and how to manage health conditions
- A physical therapist teaches exercises that will be an integral part of their recovery process
- Educational materials about their specific joint replacement procedure
After surgery is scheduled, individuals will be contacted by the Joint Venture program coordinator to schedule a preoperative educational class.
