There’s a huge sign on my door that says: DO NOT ENTER without speaking to nurse first. I have a syndrome where one breath of perfume and my lungs will swell shut. I carry my Epipen with me at all times, but it’s still very dangerous. Earlier today, my nurses were getting ready to transport me and Bibi was cleaning the room right across the hall. She stopped me from afar and asked me about the sign in regards to cleaning. She knew I had been here for a few days and really wanted to clean my room. I was a little hesitant at first, but she promised to be extremely careful about the products she used. For her to stop, ask about the no cleaning sign and go out of her way to clean my room given the circumstances, is just phenomenal. I couldn’t believe it. She cleaned everything with water and wiped it down with odorless smells. My room looked great. I asked her why she did it and she said she wanted to make sure I had a clean environment. It was the sweetest thing and something I will never forget. It meant a lot to me. Customer service in a hospital is just as important as how good the surgeon performing my surgery is and I don’t take things like that for granted.

The neurosurgery staff at Westside Hospital kept Robert informed and supported during and after his lumbar spinal fusion surgery, something that frightened him before speaking with the team.
