Corneshia and Tra’ could not have been more excited about the birth of their son Tra’Sen. On May 19, Tra’Sen entered the world weighing in at 6 lbs., 7 oz. and 19 inches long. The birth was going according to their plan — until Tra’Sen was born with extremely elevated bilirubin levels. He required oxygen support, intense photo therapy and intravenous immunoglobin therapy via an umbilical venous line. He also needed a feeding tube until he was able to bottle feed. Less than one month ago, Tra’Sen would have had to have been transferred out to receive that therapy — but thanks to HCA Florida Capital Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit opening – he was able to be treated in-house and able to stay with his parents.

Corneshia says, “The HCA Florida Capital Hospital’s NICU is the best! The doctors and nurses are knowledgeable, dedicated, passionate and loyal to their patients. They made sure all of the baby’s needs were addressed. We were always receiving updates about his care and the video camera system they have in place is so beneficial! We set-up an account and we were able to watch our baby 24/7. The staff in the NICU provided educational support and did an outstanding job taking care of our bundle of joy.”

“We were able to give our baby his first bath while in the NICU and it was an amazing feeling. As parents, we were able to connect with our baby by feeding him and holding him each day. The doctor and nurses made sure we knew what medications he received, with detailed explanations. We asked so many questions and the nurses were very patient with us. Also, while Tra’Sen was in the neonatal intensive care unit we received CPR lessons and a private breastfeeding class with an amazing instructor.”
