Ed Moore
Ed Moore underwent a total knee replacement at Capital Hospital.
Ed Moore, an outdoor enthusiast has dealt with knee pain for some time. Previously, he has had three arthroscopic surgeries. He says, "It has been hard walking, like broken glass in my knee for about a year and has been much worse since this past summer."
Ed recently underwent a total knee replacement for his right knee at Capital Hospital and raved about the care he received. He says, "the surgical suite, the surgeon (Dr. Chesley Durgin), the anesthesiologist (Dr. Jack Atwater), the team in recovery, the team in the same-day suite, and the staff from food services who brought me a late afternoon snack — I have to compliment one and all!"
Ed was able to go home the same day after his procedure and he is very thankful for the advancements in medicine that allowed him to do so. He says, "Ten-to-fifteen years ago I would have spent several days in the hospital recovering. I would not have had a mechanical device that wraps my leg and transfers cool air from ice and circulates soothing air around my knee. I would not have had detailed measurements from a scan of the stylus to remeasure the bones after the incisions were made and match them to the scan, for exact precision. I feel fortunate to be living during a time with such medical advancements."
Ed knows dedicated rehab therapy is key to making him fully functional again, but he is very optimistic about getting back to the activities he enjoys, such as boating and farming.
"Every member of the Capital Regional team I encountered was warm, professional, informative, kind, and thorough in meeting my needs. They truly went above and beyond in making an experience that could be stressful, into an experience that was more pleasant than one might expect. Many thanks to all of the care teams at Capital Regional Medical Center."
