I had just dropped off my daughter at work and was driving in North Dade when all of a sudden I heard the sound of a car losing control.
On a quiet Monday morning, the roads of Miami were unusually clear as everyone prepared for Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 hurricane devastating the Bahamas. I had just dropped off my daughter at work and was driving in North Dade when all of a sudden I heard the sound of a car losing control. As I looked up, I saw the car flipping over and coming directly at me! I slammed on the brakes so hard and the car ended up on my car hood, crushing my leg.
I was taken to Aventura Hospital as a Trauma patient and would need emergency surgery. That's when I met Dr. Andrew Hiller, Orthopedic Surgeon who said I had a 'floating knee' … that my knee cap was down by my ankle and that my femur bone, which is the strongest bone in my body was a big problem and would require many hours of surgery. Dr. Hiller helped calm me down by explaining what I should expect step by step from how long the surgery would take, to the expected 3-6 month recovery time, amount of pain I would feel and even how many follow-up appointments I would need to fully recover.
I feel a special connection with Dr. Hiller and consider myself to be Dr. Hiller's "Baby Bounce Back" patient since my surgery took a lot of hours and I was his first surgery patient after coming back from paternity leave. And, even after that long surgery and with a newborn waiting at home, Dr. Hiller was still there to check on me when I woke up in ICU.
Dr. Hiller is the best doctor and I also love his staff…they know me by name. When I hear Dr. Hiller's name mentioned I always say, check him out on the internet, he's wonderful!
