Luke Pousma
Luke was airlifted from Jamaica for emergency care after having a bad fall.
Handstand contests are a tradition for Luke Pousma and his siblings, especially while on family vacations. The latest contest though resulted in a devastating injury for 20-year-old Luke while vacationing in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
After seeking local emergency care and finding out that Luke had a broken femur, the family weighed their options and decided to air lift their son back to the U.S. for emergency, surgical care. After arriving to Ft. Lauderdale via air ambulance, Luke was transported to Aventura Hospital, where the admitting physician and medical care team were prepared to receive him and conducted a CAT scan which provided the root cause for the fracture — a sizable cyst that was not detected via x-rays done in Jamaica.
After a successful surgery performed by Dr. Shani Katz, Orthopedic Surgeon, the follow-up attention given by the entire Aventura Hospital medical care team "was very positive and the care was outstanding."
Upon leaving the hospital, Luke looked forward to returning to Colorado and doing what most Coloradans like to do — being active and doing stuff outside!
